June has been the month to GO, GO, GO for OTR. We have been to DC, Portland, Santa Barbara, Avila Beach, Santa Clara, and back home so far. WHEW! Sure, we're ready for our own beds, but we still have travel on the mind!
So here is a list of our favorite on-the-go tips and tools and gadgets to keep in our back pocket when we hit the road.
On our stop in Washington DC, the highlight of our trip (no offense to our clients!), was the meatloaf sandwich from A Baked Joint. Like, I dream about it. Everything here was delicious and fresh and perfect. Such a great find!
But how can you find local places like this on your travels without relying on Google? It might sound a little silly, but connecting with people is the key. Uber drivers hold great insider tips, so don't hesitate to strike up a conversation when you hop in the car. Bartenders and baristas at your hotel and neighbors of your AirBnb are fantastic resources to tap into. We always YELP in a new city, and it rarely leads us astray. ..
No matter where you're going, you have to get there, right? And man, it can be a pain. But Hither and Thither has put together a great list of ways to get cheap airfare in this blog post. Google flights is the SHIZ for making sure you get the best price on airfare, so we have to rep it.
Hotels can start to feel stale and sterile after a while. To remedy this, we have recently become obsessed with travel candles, and think everyone should be into them too.
Etsy has some great options, so you can support the little guy while making your home away from home as cozy as possible! We also love travel blankets to bring a touch of home wherever we go. The super soft Travel Smith CoolMax comes in tons of awesome colors and can make any space (including your window seat) comfy cozy.
But, at OTR, our actual favorite thing is that the start of Summer means the start of camping season. We had out mind's BLOWN by this new tree tent by Tentsile that we want to save up our pennies to purchase. If you're a camper like we are, you know the hardest part is functioning (and feeling safe) when your phone starts to lose power, so its always key to bring an external battery pack, even if you're glamping. I recently got a sweet rose gold one from mophie, but this list is pretty handy for other options.
If you're in the mood to consume travel-based content, check out Afar's The Wayfarer. It features so many good things, it is hard to name just one. So check them all out. There's also this amazing guy traveling the world with his pet chicken, Monica, and documenting it on IG via Refinery 29. Such a treat to check in to see the adventures these two are having.
Staying local, Kirby Cove is our absolute favorite place to go get away. This "black sand" beach requires a small hike to get to it, but is well worth it. A unique vantage point of the bridge, this spot is not to be missed!
Need some inspiration to jumpstart your engine? No problem. The NYT 52 Places to go in 2016 list is a great read and will guarantee to get your gears turning. So grab some suntan lotion and a pair of sunglasses. It's time to hit the road!
