We all have a love-hate relationship with favors. We love the idea of giving partygoers something to remember our event by, but we also know how cliche favors can be. Enough with the bubbles and chapstick, amirite? Favors can also get pricey if you're not careful, adding hundreds of dollars to your already ballooning budget. Not to fear. At OTR, we love surprising favors that are heartfelt, useful, and don't break the bank. Here are just a few of our faves and some helpful resources to help you put them together for under $2 a pop!
For the culinary couple, a homemade spice blend or rub is a affordable, lasting gift that has a purpose. Check out Amazon for jars and Vistaprint for printable labels. Hint: if you use Vistaprint, always search online for a coupon code first to save some extra cash.
For the hippie in you, incense is a must-have. Believe it or not, you can get great quality incense in bulk for next to nothing. Our secret? International grocery stores. Often, these stores carry bulk quantities for less than $10 for a large box of 10-15 smaller boxes or tubes. No international market nearby? No problem! Check out Amazon, just make sure incense in the order is boxed in smaller quantities. Note: this favor is best for outdoor weddings, just in case guests have sensitivity to the scent (scent-sitivity?). Here, we used a quirky stamp that says, "You're heaven scent. . ."
If you're looking for something eco-friendly, and on budget, customized wildflower seed packets are a great way to go. These 90 cent customized seed packets are from Etsy, but you can also make your own for even less. This Etsy vendor sells plain favor envelopes, and you can order a stellar custom stamp from Kate Albie Creative, also on Etsy. Wildflower seeds can be found in bulk at Home Depot for less than $10. All around, this is a great option for an affordable, fun, and useful favor.
No one has ever said no to a properly timed mint, or a good pun. Hello Lovely on Etsy kills it in general and can give you some much needed "mint-spiration" if this is the direction you want to go. Looking to DIY? No problem. Check out Candy Warehouse from some sweet deals on individually wrapped mints. You can print labels using Minted, or get yo'self a stamp and some craft paper.
You know what we love? A dual-purpose favor. How about a sparkling send off and a favor in one? Personalized sparklers are sure to make everyone feel young again! These are so simple to create, we can't help but dig this idea. Check out Wedding Sparklers Outlet for a great bulk deal on sparklers, and they even have tags. DIY tags give the favor more of a personal feel, so check out your local craft store for brown paper, manilla tags, or even scrapbooking paper for some flare. Head over to Etsy to grab a personalized stamp to help automate the process!
Looking for an ultra-useful favor? Look no further than your friendly neighborhood koozie. Check out the Etsy shop Sip Hip Hooray for some custom designs that look polished. Bonus? If you break them out at the tail end of the event with sodas or beers, it'll make for some great Instagram posts.
Looking for a special touch to add to your Thank You cards in lieu of favors? Check out Fox Print where you can print copies of your favorite Instagram posts. Tuck one of these retro pics into the envelope with a little note at the bottom, and guests can pop the pic on their fridge or hang it by their desk.
Thinking about favors can be overwhelming, we know, but once you shift your thinking away from the typical items, it can actually be fun to think through. For DIY projects, we suggest gathering a group of friends, getting some snacks (and some champagne) and making it a party. Your friends will love seeing their handiwork showcased on the big day and you'll be proud to gift guests with items that actually mean something.
