Once upon a time, giving guests disposable cameras seemed like an innovative and interesting way to put a personal spin on event photography. Sure, guest’s photos were shaky (especially those taken at the end of the night) but it was fun to be able to see special moments through the eyes of those attending. Now, however, there are new ways to create lasting memories that don’t keep your guests busy for longer than it takes to strike a pose. Here are OTR’s favorite event photography options #trending right now.
Smart booths.Sure, we’ve all heard of renting a photo booth, but smart booths are where it’s at now. Machines are set so your event logo or wedding monogram is printed on each photo, creating a fun and unique keepsake. Not only does the machine print photos, but the machine hooks up to social media and will send files to your dropbox once the event wraps. This awesome booth is self-sufficient and doesn’t require an operator, but that doesn’t mean guests are left hanging. Pre-choose a character voice (French Guy, Joey From The Bronx, etc.) and he or she will guide guests through the process from start to finish, even prompting poses.
Mirror Me.Who doesn’t look in the mirror before snapping a photo? With Mirror Me, guests can look into one that actually snaps a pic. When guests approach the mirror, an animation appears, prompting them to touch the mirror. Then, the animation talks them through the picture taking process. We love that Mirror Me looks like another piece of luxe decor, but hidden inside are LED screens and photo equipment to snap a pic. Guests quickly become comfortable with this fun and easy-to-use “booth” and the resulting pics are always perfection.
Gif booths. Motion is everything right now on social, so a Gif booth is a great way to capture memories in a way that you know guests will not only love to have, but love to share. A great tool for promoting brand awareness, a Gif booth a great works a lot like a photo booth, but instead of just capturing photos, it captures Gifs that are sent to your guests for saving and sharing.
Custom flip books. Combine the irresistable trend of moving images with an old school favorite. With services like Laugh Box, you can have custom flip books created right on sight, capturing your guest's great time in a way they can replay over and over without the use of battery power. Guests are invited to stand in front of a pre-set backdrop, and the photographer calls out a series of dance moved of poses. A mini flip book is then printed and handed over to the guest featuring your event logo or monogram.
Step and Repeats or branded backdrops. Custom backdrops are cheaper than you’d think, and they’re a great way to get your branding front and center without thinking through a booth rental or a big ticket item.We still suggest using a hashtag to gather photos, but having a backdrop available makes things simple and gives guests the freedom to get creative. Hint: popping a basket or box of costumes nearby encourages playful pics!
On-Demand Custom Geofilters for Snapchat. A custom geofilter is a simple way to integrate branding (or your event's monogram) into your guest's already existing social presence. Creating an on-demand Geofilter is as cheap as $300, and puts all the benefits of a photo booth into your guests' hands.
Caricature artists. Maybe not an alternative to event photography, but a great addition, hiring a caricature artist gives your guests an awesome souvenir worthy of wall-hanging! Consider engaging one or two artists for just two hours so it seems like a real part of the event.
Whether you choose to use some or all of these ideas, a few things should always be present. A hashtag should be decided on and displayed prominently throughout the venue. Even consider having custom decals created for the bathroom mirrors! Baskets of costumes and props encourages fun photos, but don't be surprised if these props make their way to the dance floor toward the end of the evening!
